NEWARK, N.J. – Rutgers–Newark men's soccer closed out its regular season in impressive fashion with a 4-1 comeback victory over Ramapo College on Wednesday evening at Frederick Douglass Field. After conceding an early penalty goal, the Scarlet Raiders stormed back with four unanswered goals to secure the home win.
Ramapo opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Gianfranco Ponce converted from the penalty spot, putting the Roadrunners ahead 1-0. Despite the early setback, Rutgers–Newark maintained its composure and continued to apply pressure throughout the first half before breaking through early in the second. Jake Milne netted the equalizer in the 52nd minute off an assist from Pablo Moreno to bring the Raiders level.
The momentum fully swung in Rutgers–Newark's favor when Ian Brown scored in the 67th minute, assisted by Chihiro Suenaga, to give the Scarlet Raiders the lead. Just over a minute later, Milne capitalized with his second goal of the night, off a pass from Nick Sousa to make it 3-1. Gerson Gonzalez-Quevedo then capped off the scoring in the 76th minute, sealing the 4-1 win for the Scarlet Raiders.
Rutgers–Newark dominated statistically, outshooting Ramapo 24-6 with 11 shots on goal compared to just two for the visitors. The Scarlet Raiders also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Ilan Golden anchored the defense, allowing just one goal on six shots faced.
Milne led the attack with two goals, while Brown and Gonzalez-Quevedo each added one. The victory improved Rutgers–Newark's record to 9-8-2 overall and 3-5-1 in NJAC play, closing out the regular season on a high note at home.
