Camden, NJ – On the first day of the Scarlet Raptor Classic, Rutgers–Newark battled FDU-Florham on a neutral court in Camden. Despite showing flashes of momentum throughout the afternoon, the Scarlet Raiders ultimately came up short, falling 66–57 as the Devils used a strong second quarter to pull away.
Rutgers–Newark leaned heavily on Sanaa Brodie, who turned in an efficient performance with 19 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Imani McKenzie added 11 points and five boards, providing steady production on both ends. Still, the Scarlet Raiders struggled to maintain offensive rhythm, particularly in the third quarter when FDU-Florham capitalized on cold shooting to create separation.
Rutgers–Newark mounted a strong push in the fourth quarter, shooting 60% to cut nto the deficit, but the rally fell short. Despite the loss, the Scarlet Raiders showed encouraging individual performances as they look to bounce back on day two of the Scarlet Raptor Classic with a matchup with Baruch College.
