Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Roadrunners Speed by the Scarlet Raiders

NEWARK, NJ | Ramapo shut down their defense as Rutgers-Newark came up short by a score of 70-49.

Donovan Crawford opened up the scoring with a mid range jumper from Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd. After that, each offense needed some time to warm up. It wasn't until 16:35 on the clock that the next basket was scored - a pull-up jumper from Travis Miles.

After going down 8-0, the Roadrunners finally got on the board courtesy of Peter Gorman from behind the arc. Ramapo built into the game, and by the halfway point of the first period they were ahead 15-13.

That gap grew to eight before Rutgers-Newark regained their footing. Crawford laid in from Essam Assaf to bring the hosts within two with three minutes left in the half.

The Scarlet Raiders continued to push but Ramapo held them off. Gorman finished at the rim to give the visitors a six point lead at the break.

Coming out of halftime, the visitors were sharp. They quickly widened the gap to 10 and kept it there. At 15:48, the Scarlet Raiders took a timeout with the score at 38-26.

Levi Holton got going in the second half. He stole a pass and spun for the finish on the break at 10:22, but his team was still behind by double digits. Shane Rooney went right back the other way to score, making it 52-40 midway through the second period.

Ramapo's confidence only grew as time went on. They started hitting their shots and running  away with the game. Peter Gorman was on point - he nailed his third three pointer of the game to set the score at 66-44.

And that was all she wrote. The Roadrunners rode their lead until the final buzzer, and the Scarlet Raiders' NJAC record fell to 2-14.

Men's basketball is back in action this Saturday, February 15th. They will face Rowan in Glassboro, NJ at 3:00 PM.
