NEWARK, N.J. – The Rutgers University–Newark women's soccer team opened its 2025 season on the road Friday night, falling 1–0 to Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson. The Raptors struck early, as Nikki Magnozzi found the back of the net in the 13th minute off an assist from Alexandria Loner. That quick goal would hold up as the difference in a tightly contested match.
Despite the setback, the Scarlet Raiders controlled much of the play and produced plenty of chances to equalize. Rutgers–Newark outshot Bard 26–7 overall, with 14 shots landing on target, but Bard goalkeeper McKenna Reeves turned aside 11 saves to keep her team in front.
Rutgers–Newark goalkeeper Shaina Sackett recorded two saves while holding the Raptors to just three shots on goal. On the attacking side, Mariana Valencia led the charge with three attempts, while Samantha Vieira and Vielka Fernandez each added multiple efforts to test the Bard defense.
