Newark, NJ – The Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball team opened their road trip on Saturday against Wilkes University, battling hard in a four-set match before falling 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23). Tracey Ilderis led the Scarlet Raiders with 11 kills, while Shayla Moody-Santos and Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte added steady contributions at the net. Angelyse Orellana handed out 17 assists, and the Raiders' defense stood tall with 78 digs as a team. Rutgers-Newark found its rhythm in the third set to grab a win, but 28 attack errors and a .013 hitting percentage made it difficult to sustain momentum.
In the second match of the day, Rutgers-Newark fell to Lancaster Bible College in straight sets (25-10, 25-20, 25-20). Moody-Santos and Simba-Malasarte each recorded seven kills, while Orellana distributed 23 assists to pace the offense. Miley Clenaghan and Cyan Long both finished with double-digit digs to lead the defensive effort. Despite competitive play in the final two sets, the Scarlet Raiders were undone by 20 attack errors and a strong serving performance from Lancaster Bible, who finished with 12 aces.
