Box Score Newark, NJ – Rutgers-Newark men's soccer put together a dominant performance during the first game of the Brick City Classic, rolling past Farmingdale State, 4-0, at Frederick Douglass Field.
The Scarlet Raiders wasted no time getting on the board, striking twice in the opening two minutes. Ian Brown netted his second goal of the season just 27 seconds in, and moments later, Edgar Silva converted a penalty kick to double the lead. Rutgers-Newark carried that momentum into the second half, where Erick Cortes added his sixth goal of the year in the 67th minute off a feed from Pablo Moreno. Peter Rios capped the scoring in the 77th minute with his first of the season.
Rutgers-Newark controlled play throughout, outshooting the Rams 24-5 and holding a commanding 62% of possession. Cortes and Brown each paced the attack with multiple shots on goal, while goalkeeper David Bejarno picked up his first win of the season, making three saves to secure the clean sheet.
With the win, the Scarlet Raiders improve to 2-1-0 on the year and will complete their play in the Brick City Classic tomorrow when they host Penn State Harrisburg.
