Scarlet Raiders Split Tri-Match at The Golden Dome

NEWARK, N.J. — The Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball team split its tri-match on Saturday at The Golden Dome, earning a 3-1 victory over John Jay College before falling 3-0 to Marywood University.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the day with a four-set win over John Jay, taking the match by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-11.

Bella Foster led the offensive effort with 15 kills on an efficient .538 hitting percentage, committing just one attack error across 26 attempts. Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte added 10 kills, while Fabiana Ayala contributed seven kills. Nicole Sullivan paced the offense with 20 assists and added six service aces.

Defensively, Cyan Long led Rutgers-Newark with 25 digs, while Simba-Malasarte finished with five digs and five service aces. Foster also made her presence felt at the net, recording four total blocks.

Rutgers-Newark responded after dropping the third set by dominating the fourth, hitting .273 with 12 kills and just three errors to secure the victory.

The Scarlet Raiders returned to the court against Marywood, falling in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17.

Simba-Malasarte led Rutgers-Newark with 14 kills and nine digs, while Foster added six kills and a team-high six total blocks. Long contributed 21 digs to anchor the defensive effort, and Sullivan and Annabelle Fote recorded 10 assists apiece.

Despite a competitive opening set, Marywood used a strong offensive performance to pull away, finishing the match with 42 kills and a .205 hitting percentage.

Rutgers-Newark moves to 7-9 overall following Saturday's tri-match and will look to build on its opening-match victory as they look to their next contest against Delaware Valley University on Thursday, October 15th.
