NEWARK, N.J. — Rutgers-Newark men's soccer freshman Zahra-Deen Amadou has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week for the second time this season following another standout week for the Scarlet Raiders.
Amadou helped Rutgers-Newark split its two matches last week, recording eight points on three goals and two assists. His strong week moved him into third place in the NJAC in scoring with 16 points this season.
In the Scarlet Raiders' NJAC opener against William Paterson, Amadou erupted for six points in a 6-1 victory, scoring twice and adding two assists. He put all three of his shots on goal, finding the back of the net on two of his attempts.
Amadou continued his strong play against Montclair State, scoring Rutgers-Newark's first goal in a 4-2 setback. He finished the match with four shots, putting three on target.
For the week, Amadou totaled three goals, two assists, eight points and seven shots, with six attempts on goal. Through the first portion of the season, he has recorded 16 points and ranks third among all NJAC players.
The weekly honor marks Amadou's second NJAC Rookie of the Week selection this season.
