MAHWAH, N.J. — The Rutgers-Newark women's basketball team dropped a NJAC road contest on Wednesday night, falling to Ramapo College, 77–39.
The Scarlet Raiders battled early, trailing just 20–14 after the opening quarter, but Ramapo extended its advantage in the second period. The Roadrunners outscored Rutgers-Newark 14–8 in the frame to take a 34–22 lead into halftime.
Rutgers-Newark struggled to find offensive rhythm throughout the contest, shooting 21 percent from the field. Ramapo capitalized on the momentum in the second half, putting up 20 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth to steadily pull away.
Jaielyn Alston led the Scarlet Raiders with 11 points and seven boards, while Sanaa Brodie recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Scarlet Raiders will return home for Senior Day on Saturday as they host the Profs of Rowan.
