On Friday April 17th Rutgers-Newark split a non-conference doubleheader with Brooklyn College by a final score of an 8-2 loss and 3-2 win Friday, April 17th.
In game one, Brooklyn struck first and steadily built its lead, capitalizing on timely hitting and a handful of Rutgers-Newark miscues. The visitors plated multiple runs in the early innings and never relinquished control, finishing with eight runs on nine hits.
Rutgers-Newark showed flashes offensively, collecting six hits on the day. Kayla Cardozo and Maddy Haack each recorded multi-hit performances to pace the lineup, while Ellery Mahony drove in both Scarlet Raider runs. Mariah Rimas-McManus also added a hit in the effort.
In game two, Rutgers-Newark edged Brooklyn, 3-2, in a tightly contested matchup, using timely hitting and a complete-game effort in the circle to secure the win.
