NEWARK, NJ-
On April 14th the Scarlet Raiders dropped two in an NJAC doubleheader match-up against the Kean University Cougars.
In the first game, the Cougars handed the Raiders a 7-1 loss. The Scarlet Raiders managed three hits on the day but broke through in the fifth inning to account for their lone run. After reaching base, Gabriela Forese came around to score on an RBI single from Mariah Rimas-McManus, who finished 1-for-3 with the team's only RBI. Soncia Hughes also added a hit, while Forese reached base twice with a hit and a hit-by-pitch. Kean built its lead early, scoring three runs in the second and adding two more in the third behind timely extra-base hits and power at the plate. Rutgers-Newark was able to match this power at the plate, taking a loss.
The second game was a close contest but ended in a 2-0 loss for the Raiders. The Scarlet Raiders were limited offensively, managing just three hits across seven innings. Keelin O'Brien, Gabriela Forese, and Ellery Mahony each recorded a hit. Despite a few base runners, Rutgers-Newark was unable to string together timely hits, leaving three runners on base. In the circle, Mia Aquino delivered a strong complete-game performance, allowing just four hits and two runs.
