Rutgers-Newark dropped a pair conference games to Stockton on Friday, April 24 falling 20-4 and 11-0 in two, five-inning contests.
In game one, the Ospreys came out swinging early and never let up, plating runs in every inning, including an eight-run third that created significant separation. Stockton capitalized on consistent offensive pressure to secure the run-rule victory.
Rutgers-Newark showed early life at the plate, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Kayla Cardozo led the way with a strong performance, going 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Josephine Morales also added a pair of hits. Keelin O'Brien contributed a hit and a run scored, helping pace the Scarlet Raiders' offense.
Rutgers-Newark added two more runs in the fifth inning, with Gabriela Forese driving in both runs to account for the team's RBIs. Despite collecting six hits and showing flashes offensively, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to slow down Stockton's bats.
Stockton held control from the beginning in game two. The visitors wasted no time getting on the board, stringing together timely hits and capitalizing on early opportunities to build a steady lead. Rutgers-Newark was unable to find its rhythm at the plate, as the Scarlet Raiders were held hitless over five innings. Despite working to generate baserunners, the home side could not break through against a strong Stockton pitching performance.Defensively, Rutgers-Newark battled to limit further damage, but Stockton's lineup continued to produce, extending the lead and securing the run-rule victory.
