NEWARK, NJ- The Scarlet Raiders took on the #20 ranked Rowan University Profs on April 21st. The Profs handed the Raiders two losses, 9-3 and 10-0.
In game one the Scarlet Raiders found themselves playing from behind early, as Rowan pushed across a run in the first inning and added two more in the third. The host Profs broke the game open in the fourth, plating six runs to take firm control.
Rutgers-Newark showed resilience midway through the contest, getting on the board in the fourth inning. The Scarlet Raiders added two runs in the frame and tacked on another in the fifth to cut into the deficit. Despite the effort, the offense was limited to just two hits in the contest.
Kayla Cardozo and Maddy Haack accounted for both Rutgers-Newark hits, with Haack delivering a double and reaching base twice. Cardozo also crossed the plate as part of the Scarlet Raiders' fourth-inning rally. Rutgers-Newark was unable to continue to match the Profs offensive and dropped the game 9-3.
To start game two, Rowan wasted little time setting the tone, plating runs early and continuing to apply pressure throughout the game. A big first inning helped the Profs build momentum, and they added to their lead in the middle frames to secure the run-rule victory.
Rutgers-Newark managed to collect four hits in the contest, with Mariah Rimas-McManus, Keelin O'Brien, Gabriela Forese, and Jessica Boyce each recording one. Despite putting runners on base, the Scarlet Raiders were unable to string together timely hits against Rowan.
