PITMAN, N.J. - Freshman Zahra-Deen Amadou of the Rutgers-Newark men's soccer team has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Amadou helped the Scarlet Raiders to a 2-0 week, contributing one goal and one assist across two games. He registered four shots, putting two on target, while playing a key role in Rutgers-Newark's offensive success.
In a 3-0 victory over Farmingdale State, Amadou assisted on the game-winning goal before finding the back of the net himself. His performance helped the Scarlet Raiders secure the shutout victory and cap a perfect week for Rutgers-Newark.
Through the opening weeks of the season, Amadou has emerged as one of the conference's top offensive performers, currently ranking fifth in the NJAC in total points.
The Rookie of the Week honor marks Amadou's first NJAC weekly award of his collegiate career.
