Scarlet Raiders Fall to Rutgers-Camden in Four Sets

CAMDEN, N.J. — The Rutgers-Newark women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Rutgers-Camden Tuesday night at the Rutgers-Camden Gymnasium, falling by scores of 23-25, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21.

The Scarlet Raiders (6-4, 0-1 NJAC) opened the match strong, edging Rutgers-Camden (8-5, 1-0 NJAC) in a tightly contested first set. Rutgers-Newark used a late push to take the opening frame, 25-23.

Rutgers-Camden responded in the second set, battling through a 17-17 tie before closing the frame on an 8-0 run to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-17 victory.

The Scarlet Raiders fell behind early in the third set as Camden built a 13-5 advantage. Rutgers-Camden continued to extend its lead and took the set, 25-14, to move ahead 2-1.

The fourth set featured another competitive battle, with the teams tied at 17-17. Camden then took a 19-18 lead and held on to close out the match, 25-21.

Bella Foster led the Scarlet Raiders offensively with 15 kills on 31 attacks while committing just two errors for a .419 hitting percentage. She also recorded two solo blocks and an assisted block for 17.5 points.

Jaedyn Simba-Malasarte added eight kills and a team-high 24 digs, while Tracey Ilderis contributed four kills and 14 digs. Cyan Long recorded five kills, seven digs and two service aces.

Shayla Moody finished with six kills and three block assists, while Shania Oigbokie added two kills and a block assist.

Nicole Sullivan paced the Scarlet Raiders with 30 assists and added seven digs. Lucia Gallo contributed 18 digs, while the Scarlet Raiders finished the match with 78 digs as a team.

Rutgers-Newark totaled 40 kills and seven total blocks in the match.
