SENIOR (2013): All-NJAC second team…
Coaches Award for unselfish dedication to the team… midfield leader for Scarlet Raider team which finished 17-6-1, reached the NJAC Championship match for the first time in program history and earned the program’s first NCAA Championship at-large berth… came back after missing a season because of three knee surgeries to start in 20 of the 22 games in which he appeared… totaled eight points on two goals and four assists… put 11 of his 35 shots on goal (31.4%)… netted the Raiders’ lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Stevens (10/22/13)… tallied a goal in a 4-0 win at Rowan (10/19/13)… assisted on the first two goals in a 3-2 win over William Paterson (10/26/13)… had an assist on the Raiders’ second goal in a 3-2 win over Merchant Marine (9/7/13)… notched an assist in a 6-1 win over St. Joseph’s LI (9/11/13).
PROFILE OF THE WEEK (October 2013)
JUNIOR (2011): Started in 15 matches while seeing action in 18 for the 13-8-3 Raiders who won the ECAC Metro Championship playoffs…
Honorable Mention All-NJAC at forward… totaled five points with two goals and an assist… netted the first goal in the 60th minute of a 2-1 win over Redlands (9/3/11)… scored the final goal in a 3-0 regular-season win over St. Joseph’s LI (9/14/11)… put 10 of his 27 shots on goal.
SOPHOMORE (2010): Played in 21 matches with 14 starting assignments for the 12-9-1 Raiders… totaled four points with one goal and a pair of assists… put 15 of his 43 shots on goal… scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Randolph College (9/5) in NC Wesleyan’s Roger Taylor Fall Classic… had an assist in a 5-1 win season-opening win over Farmingdale State (9/1)… assisted on the opening goal of a 3-1 win over St. Joseph’s LI (9/15).
FRESHMAN (2009): Captain of Union County College’s 2009 junior college national championship squad, helping Owls to a 19-5-1 record… was second on the squad with a dozen assists and scored four goals from his midfield position.
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-time all-state and two-year captain of Union HS squad, lettering four times… helped Farmers to a cumulative mark of 45-18-5… first team all-state and captain of 15-2-0 squad, earning a berth on the North Region Senior All-Star team in 2007… second team all-state and captain of 15-5-1 Farmer team which reached the Union County Tournament semifinals… has played eight years of club soccer in the PDA Cryuff system, helping team to a state title and a regional finals appearance.
PERSONAL: Majoring in criminal justice at R-N… joins cousin Daniel Naranjo on the Scarlet Raider soccer team… son of Nancy and Jesus Barrera… has two younger brothers (Robert and Manuel).
