Jonathan Dominguez

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Jonathan Dominguez joined the Rutgers University-Newark baseball coaching staff in January of 2017.

“I am excited to welcome Johnny to our coaching staff,” said Rizzi. “It is always an advantage to have coaches who played in the program. His work ethic and knowledge of all aspects of the game are outstanding qualities that, I am sure, will rub off on the players. He had a great year in 2015 so he is going to be an asset to Coach (Jake) Campbell and the pitching staff.”

Dominguez was a member of the Scarlet Raider program for three years (2013, 2014 and 2015). He missed most of the 2014 season due to injury, but came back with a sterling senior season in 2015. In that campaign, Dominguez made eight appearances and seven starts, compiling a tidy 2.74 earned run average in 46 innings pitched. He had nearly a 4-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio, fanning 43 batters and firing two complete games.

For his Rutgers-Newark career, Dominguez toed the runner in 30 games, tossing 88.2 innings and striking out 72 opponents.

Dominguez graduated from Rutgers-Newark with a degree in Criminal Justice and is currently working as a teacher in his home town of Newark. Last baseball season, he was the freshman baseball coach at East Side High School, and he also spent three summers at the MVP Baseball Camp.

The former hurler will work primarily with the Rutgers-Newark pitchers but will be involved in all aspects of the Scarlet Raiders program.
