Former Rutgers University-Newark student-athlete and three–year letter winner, Ross Halkias, returned to the University to join the baseball coaching staff in September 2019. Before returning to the Scarlet Raiders, Halkias spent one year at conference foe New Jersey City University, where he was the hitting coach. He was also the Head Coach of the New Jersey Angels, of the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) and currently owns the Angels franchise which is now the Angels Baseball Club of New Jersey.
Before his coaching days, Halkias spent a year at the County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey, helping CCM to a 24-20 record and runner-up finish in Region 19. In 2016, Halkias transferred to Rutgers University–Newark where he had an outstanding career. In his first year with the Scarlet Raiders, Halkias was named All NJAC Honorable Mention, finished second on the team with a .287 batting average, collected 33 hits 10 for extra bases, and a team-leading 3 home runs. 2017 was much of the same for Halkias hitting .297, 37 hits, 14 for extra bases, second on the team with 4 home runs, 26 RBI, and compiled a stellar .996 fielding percentage. Halkias totaled 80 hits, 28 extra-base hits, and a .982 fielding percentage as a Scarlet Raider.
Halkias begins his second season as an assistant coach and his first season as recruiting coordinator. Halkias works with the catchers, first basemen, and hitters. He also assists with opponents scouting reports, player tendencies and handles defensive positioning.
Halkias is currently finishing his degree at Rutgers University-Newark and is set to graduate this spring with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
