Hakeem Williams

  • Title
    Assistant Coach
Hakeem Williams joined the Rutgers-Newark coaching staff in 2012 after a four-year playing career at NCAA D-II St. Anselm College, bringing a love of the game and local knowledge to the table.

Born in New York City and raised in Spring Valley, Williams played high school basketball at St. Joseph’s Regional of Montvale, NJ, earning all-county honors and all-league laurels as a junior and senior.

He lettered four times at St. Anselm from 2008 through 2012, helping the Hawks a 19-9 record as a sophomore and a 20-11 finish as a junior. The team went 14-8 in Northeast 10 play in each of those seasons.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2012 from St. Anselm.

He’s focused on becoming a head basketball coach, and chose Rutgers-Newark for that reason.

“I always thought Rutgers-Newark was a great school and I considered going here out of high school,” Williams states. “Also, Coach Loughran is a great coach and I will learn a lot from him.”
