Kevin Grek enters his second season as the graduate assistant coach with Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball program in 2018-19.
"We are lucky to bring Kevin on board here at Rutgers-Newark," said Loughran. "He was a really good player in our conference for four years, he knows the NJAC well and he is going to be a great asset for our program and its student-athletes."
Grek is very familiar with the Scarlet Raiders and the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) as a 2017 graduate of Kean University. He was a member of the Cougars' men's basketball program for four seasons and played in 80 contests.
During his senior campaign, Grek started in 22 of his 25 appearances and averaged a career-best 7.9 points per game. He also served as a representative for all four years on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was a team captain for two seasons.
Grek excelled academically as well as athletically, earning a spot on the Dean's List for five of his seven semesters while graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Mathematical Sciences. He is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society Chi Alpha Sigma as well as Kean's Honor Society Lambda Alpha Sigma. Grek was named to the NJAC All-Academic Team and the Cougars' Scholar-Athlete squad for three consecutive years in 2015, 2016, and 2017. He also earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in 2016 and 2017.
As a coach, Grek served as a volunteer assistant for his alma mater Hillsborough High School during three summer league seasons and volunteered with nearby Millburn High School. Grek worked at a multitude of camps including the Bill Self Basketball Camp, Jim Boeheim Basketball Camp, Princeton University Basketball Camp, Hoop Group Elite Camp, and Hoop Group Academic Elite Camp.
"Kevin was a smart player for Kean and always impressed us," added Loughran. "He has a mind for the game and a tremendous is already demonstrating a tremendous ethic."
