Joining the Scarlet Raider staff in August 2009, Matt Adams comes to Rutgers-Newark after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at his alma mater – Keene State College in New Hampshire. 

Adams will pursue his master’s degree in public administration while helping head coach Joe Loughran with the nuts and bolts of running the Scarlet Raider program. 

At Keene State, Adams served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under head coach Rob Colbert during his two-year stint following four years of playing for the Owls, helping land 22 recruits for the program. 

A prolific outside shooter and three-point specialist during his Keene career, Adams helped the Owls reach the NCAA Division III tournament during his freshman and senior seasons. As a rookie in 2003-04, he was a reserve on the Little East Conference championship team which reached the NCAA quarterfinals to cap a 25-6 season. As a senior captain in 2006-07, he was a key member of another 25-6 squad which reached the sweet 16 round. The Owls posted records of 15-11 and 21-8 during his sophomore and junior seasons, making the ECAC Championship tournaments in each year. 

Keene State amassed a 114-56 record during his six seasons as a player and assistant coach. 

At Keene High School, Adams was a team captain and offensive MVP as a senior to cap a four-year scholastic career.

The Chesterfield, N.H., native earned his bachelor of art degree in history from Keene State in 2007.
