Rutgers-Newark Athletics

Kevin East has had one constant in his tenure as a collegiate head coach: assistant coach Alex Malaga.

The Lima, Peru, born assistant served under East during his entire nine-season tenure at New Jersey City, and he was the first assistant to join East at Rutgers-Newark in the fall of 2006.

He lettered twice in soccer while gaining a bachelor of science in communications at the Universidad Regiomonatana de Nuevo Leon in Mexico.

In high school, Malaga helped Inei “Estados Unidos” win two regional championships and one indoor regional title between 1976 and his senior year of 1980.

He resides in Toms River.
