Former George Mason libero Brad Kniewel has joined the Rutgers-Newark men’s volleyball staff as an assistant coach in September of 2008.

A 2003 All-Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) second team selection, Kniewel coached the Allegro Volleyball Club for the past three years prior to joining the Scarlet Raider staff, serving as the head coach for the 16 and 17-year-old national teams, respectively, over the last two seasons. He also served as the junior varsity coach at Lakeland Regional High School.

The New Jersey native played for four seasons at George Mason, setting the rally-scoring era record for digs in a match with 23 against NYU on February 1, 2003. He set the school’s digs per game record for the rally-scoring era (which began in 2001) in his junior season (2003) with a 2.39 average. His 1.98 digs per game average puts him second on the rally scoring career list for the Patriots.

Kniewel was a three-time all-state and four –time all county player at Lakeland Regional High School, earning East Coast MVP honors while player club volleyball following senior season in 2000. He was named the athlete of the week three times each by the Newark Star Ledger and Bergen Record.

He received his bachelor of arts degree in communications from George Mason in 2005 after earning Dean’s List recognition.
