Joshua Coffing

Joshua Coffing was named the head coach for women’s volleyball at Rutgers-Newark in July 2011.

Coffing had just completed his third year as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's volleyball teams at Rutgers-Newark. He had been a consistent thread in the steady improvement of both programs during that time.

A graduate of Stevens Institute, Coffing joined the Scarlet Raider volleyball staff in August of 2008 after helping Stevens to three North East Collegiate Volleyball Association titles (2005, 2006 and 2007).

A clinician at the Stevens Institute and Bob Bertucci volleyball camps, Coffing also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bayonne High School for four years.

The Bayonne High School product played on Stevens teams which posted records of 33-9, 27-12 and 24-9 while achieving Dean’s List credentials. He was a Presidential Scholar and a member of the Alpha Epsilon Delta Honors Society on his way to a bachelor of science in chemical biology. He worked most recently as a research chemist for the Exxon Corporation.

He was first-team all-state and played in the senior all-star game while earning four letters at Bayonne High School. The four-time All-Hudson County selection played on teams that posted a combined record of 70-29, serving as team captain as a senior. He also earned all-tournament honors at the East Coast Championships while playing for five seasons with the Warren Volleyball Club.

In high school, Coffing was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society while earning a Student Faculty Alumni Scholarship for music.
