Ivana Kapetanovic is a busy woman.  The former Kean University standout joined the Rutgers-Newark women’s volleyball staff in August while getting ready to enter the doctor of physical therapy program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry.

The native of Bosnia got the coaching bug by serving as a coach for the Allegro Volleyball Club from 2009 through June 2011.

Kapetanovic earned three letters at Kean (2007, 2008 and 2010), finishing her career with 449 points on 297 kills, 98 aces, 28 solo blocks and 52 assisted blocks.  She averaged 1.09 kills, .36 aces and 1.07 digs per set for her career.  She earned Kean’s Student-Athlete Scholar Award on her way to a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 2010.  She was named to the NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention list for 2008-09.

At East Brunswick High School, she was a two-sport standout in volleyball and basketball.  In volleyball, Kapetanovic was twice a second team All-American Conference player who helped the Bears to back-to-back conference crowns and one state finals appearance.  In basketball, she earned three letters and earned a team MVP award after helping her squad to a conference championship.

Kapetanovic, who lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina before moving to the United States in 2003, stays active in beach and indoor volleyball while pursuing her educational goals.

She has taken part in conducting free physical therapy clinics at UMDNJ.
