Baruch Downs Scarlet Raiders In Three

NEW YORK – Freshman outside hitter Toni Moppert (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills HS) led Rutgers-Newark with seven digs and nine digs but Baruch posted a 3-0 non-conference women's volleyball victory. Set scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-16.

Sophomore middle blocker Crystal Navarro (Passaic, NJ/Passaic) had four kills while junior outside hitter Rose Anna Beljour (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) chipped in eight digs, a kill and the Scarlet Raider's lone service ace. Junior libero Val Dauti (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) added seven digs and a kill for Rutgers-Newark (1-18).

The Bearcats (11-14) got balanced scoring with Nicole Baruffaldi leading the way with five kills. Martino Micko had a match-high eight points with three kills, three aces and two solo blocks.

Moppert posted four of her match-high kills total in set one when the Raiders held a 13-12 edge on a Navarro kill before Baruch reeled off five straight points to take control of the frame.

In the second set, an attack error gave the Raiders their final lead of the night at 1-0 before Baruch pulled away for the win. Baruffaldi had two kills and two aces in the second frame.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Richard Stockton on Thursday at 7 p.m. in The Golden Dome in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match.
