Witt Collects Eight Kills In Loss To Baptist Bible

ITHACA, NY – Freshman outside hitter Rachel Witt posted eight kills in a 3-0 loss to Baptist Bible, but Rutgers-Newark fell in both matches on the final day of the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College.

Witt hit .385 (8 kills, 3 errors, 13 attacks) and added a solo block in the morning opener for the Scarlet Raiders (0-11) who later fell to host Ithaca, 3-0. Set scores against Baptist Bible were 27-17, 25-14, 25-15. Ithaca won 25-10, 25-14, 25-14. 

Sophomore outside hitter Toni Moppert had 11 of her 15 digs on the day against Baptist Bible, adding two of her five kills and three of her five service aces. Junior middle blocker Na-Keta Michael posted four kills, a solo block and two assisted blocks in the opener.

Against Ithaca, freshman outside hitter Samantha Thompson pace the Raiders with four kills.

Junior setter Gabi Mangieri notched 15 of her 24 assists in the Bible Baptist contest.

Rutgers-Newark opens New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at New Jersey City. Match time is 7 p.m.
