Crystal Navarro paced Rutgers-Newark with six kills and an assisted block, but New Jersey City stopped the Scarlet Raiders, 3-0, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for each school. Set scores were 25-7, 25-20, 25-10 in the John J. Moore Athletic & Fitness Center.

Gabi Mangieri collected a dozen assists and two kills while freshman outside hitter

Tabitha Jordan led NJCU (3-3, NJAC 1-0) with eight kills while freshman middle hitter
Marissa Flynn amassed 9.5 points on seven kills (hitting .545), two solo blocks and on assisted block.
Rutgers-Newark travels to SUNY New Paltz on Friday and Saturday to compete in the Hawk Invitational. The Raiders take on Mount St. Mary at 4 p.m. and Johnson & Wales at 8 o'clock on Friday before facing host New Paltz at 10 a.m. and Johns Hopkins at noon in the two-day tournament.
