MONTCLAIR, NJ – Rutgers-Newark battled No. 17 Montclair State evenly for 100 minutes, but the Red Hawks set a new NCAA Division III record for consecutive home wins with a grueling 1-0 double-overtime victory in the MSU Soccer Park.

Matt Zielyk made four first period saves to keep the Red Hawks off the board before the Scarlet Raiders began to take control of the contest. Montclair State goalkeeper
Teddy Ritter made three of his four saves in regulation in the second period before stopping three Raider shots in the first overtime.
But,
Joseph Cullen scored on an assist from
Coron Short just 31 seconds into the second overtime to lift the Red Hawks (7-0-1, NJAC 2-0-0) over the stubborn Raiders (4-3-2, NJAC 0-2-0).
Rutgers-Newark had the edge in shots, 12-11, but Montclair State dominated corner kicks, 11-5.
MSU, the defending New Jersey Athletic Conference champion, now has posted 40 consecutive home victories.
The Raiders host New Jersey City in another NJAC contest on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field.
