Red Hawks Serve Their Way Past Scarlet Raiders

NEWARK, NJ – Freshman middle blocker Stephanie Touzan led the Scarlet Raiders with three kills, an ace and an assisted block, but Montclair State posted a 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory over Rutgers-Newark in The Golden Dome Rec Gym. Set scores were 25-10, 25-7, 25-15.

Freshman middle blocker Rachel Witt added two kills, a solo block and an assisted block, but the Raiders never got their attack in order against the senior-laden MSU squad.

Sophomore outside hitter Toni Moppert and senior libero Val Dauti each had a team-high five digs.

Montclair State served 21 consecutive winners to end set one and begin set two to break open the match. Senior outside hitter Karen Martin had five aces while serving 13 consecutive Red Hawk points to cap the opening set. Then, senior opposite Adrianne Moe served one ace while delivering nine straight Montclair State points to start set two. 

Martin paced the Red Hawks (5-4, NJAC 4-0) with 15 points, hammering down nine kills to go along with her five aces and two assisted blocks while senior outside hitter Samantha Karpinski added seven kills and five aces. MSU totaled 13 aces to the Raiders' two.

Senior libero Meghan Stevens posted a match-high 15 digs for the Red Hawks who also got 15 assists from setter Michelle Del Valle. 

The Raiders host Baruch in a non-conference match in The Golden Dome Rec Gym on Thursday at 7 p.m. before hosting the College of Staten Island on "Dig Pink Day" in support of the fight against breast cancer on Saturday at 1 o'clock.
