WAYNE, NJ – Rutgers-Newark sophomore goalkeeper Kat Renteria notched 11 saves, but William Paterson posted a 4-1 victory in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match in the Pioneer Soccer Park.

William Paterson 4, Rutgers-Newark 1

Sophomore midfielder Liana Abreu fired a shot into the right corner from the 18 on a feed from sophomore midfielder Stefani Uthman in the 38th minute to trim the WPU lead to one. But the Pioneers took a 3-1 lead in the 41st minute when sophomore forward Heidi Rogers put away the rebound of a shot off of Renteria following a corner kick and an ensuing scramble in front of the net.

Sophomore forward Megan Droelle, who picked up a hat trick for the Pioneers, scored twice in a six-minute span, both times on crossing passes from freshman midfielder Laela Brock, to stake the Pioneers (3-4-1, NJAC 2-1-1) to a quick 2-0 lead. Droelle added a final tally in the 85th minute on an assist from junior midfielder Margie Alfano.

Rutgers-Newark (4-7-0, NJAC 0-4-0) put all three of their shots on goal with Abreu, sophomore midfielder Amanda Moursy and freshman forward Amanda Moursy each taking a crack at WPU goalkeeper Meaghan Baker.

The Pioneers took 18 shots to the Raiders' three, and WPU took the only two corner kicks of the day.

The Raiders host Richard Stockton in another NJAC tilt on Saturday at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field.
