NEWARK, NJ – Sophomore Tiago Goetzke scored a loose-ball goal in the 62nd minute and Kean University made it hold up for a 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over Rutgers-Newark on Alumni Field.

Rutgers-Newark (7-5-1, NJAC 1-4-0) suffered its fifth consecutive shutout in NJAC play while the Cougars (7-4-1, NJAC 4-1-0) snapped a two-game losing streak. Kean has won three league games by one goal while the Raiders have three loses by a single tally.
Goetzke ran onto two Raider defenders and senior goalkeeper
Matt Zielyk outside of the 18 and came away with an easy punch into an open goal in after the Rutgers-Newark defenders collided. It was his sixth game-winning goal of the season, and his seventh goal overall.
Zielyk suffered the loss after coming on in the 52nd minute after junior starter
Jonathan Frances was knocked out of the game in a collision with another Raider defender. Frances posted two saves and Zielyk, one.
The Raiders put eight shots on goal compared to the Cougars' four, but each team took 17 shots. Kean dominated corner kicks, 7-2.
Kean freshman goalkeeper Tyler Callahan made seven saves to notch his first career shutout.
The Raiders peppered seven shots in the final 10 minutes but Callahan had one save and his teammates blocked four other attempts as the Cougars thwarted the Rutgers-Newark last-gasp surge.
Rutgers-Newark visits New Jersey City on Saturday for a 1 p.m. NJAC contest.
