Still Alive In The Hunt For An NJAC Berth!

Rutgers-Newark Women's Basketball

NEWARK, NJ – What a tangled web we weave – indeed.

If Rutgers-Newark downs Ramapo in Mahwah and New Jersey City falls to heavily-favored William Paterson in Wayne on Wednesday night, the Scarlet Raiders could conceivably play on four consecutive days!

A Raider win and a Gothic Knight loss would cause Rutgers-Newark, New Jersey City and Ramapo to finish in a three-way deadlock for the third and final North Division slot in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament which starts on Saturday.

Under conference rules, because all three have identical league records and each split games with the other two opponents, all three would make a play-in scenario. If the tie occurs, then Rutgers-Newark would visit New Jersey City on Thursday at 6 p.m. The winner of that match-up would then host Ramapo – the winner of an already orchestrated coin flip series – on Friday night.

The winner would then advance to the tournament's opening round at South Division second seed Rowan on Saturday. If the Raiders or Gothic Knights advance, they will be playing their fourth game in as many days.

Rutgers-Newark has gone to five consecutive NJAC Championship Tournaments under ninth-year head coach Kevin Morris.

But, Rutgers-Newark must topple the Roadrunners for the bizarre series to be put into motion. Ramapo downed the Raiders, 54-43, in The Golden Dome on January 27.
