Liotto Leads Attack, But Raiders Fall to Hendrix

KISSIMMEE, FL – Rutgers-Newark freshman catcher Monica Liotto went two for two with a walk, but those were the only hits that winning Hendrix College pitcher Elizabeth Vaughan allowed in a 9-1 decision in the Rebel Spring Games.

Liotto singled to left field with one out in the second and fourth innings and drew a walk to figure in the Raiders' only score in the sixth inning, but the Warriors (6-5) piled up 10 hits against freshman Angela Riscinti in the 6-inning decision. 

Rutgers-Newark (2-1) scored in the sixth as sophomore shortstop Tina Aita reached on an error and cross the plate on consecutive walks to Liotto, freshman first baseman Monica Bagan and junior third baseman Angela Angeli. 

Hendrix leftfielder Trace Grinnell went two for three with a 2-run double in the 4-run sixth. First baseman Jaclyn Herrera, who went two for three with two RBIs, and Vaughan, who was two for four, belted back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning. 

Jessica Mabry got the final two outs in the sixth for Hendrix, striking out one and walking one. Vaughan (20-2) struck out five and walked four.
