Rutgers-Newark Softball

Amber Affholter
KISSIMMEE, FL – Senior catcher Amber Affholter delivered a single, a double, a triple and three RBIs, but Rutgers-Newark fell to Utica College, 6-4, in the Rebel Spring Games.

Utica 6, Rutgers-Newark 4

The Scarlet Raiders (1-4) out hit the Pioneers (2-4), 12-11, but four Rutgers-Newark errors proved the difference in the contest.

Affholter ripped an RBI triple to center field in the first to give the Raiders an early lead and hammered a 2-run double to center in the fourth to knot the score at 3-3, but Utica came up with a run in the fifth and two unearned runs in the sixth to get the victory.

A lead-off double by freshman first baseman Monica Bagan followed by an RBI single by junior leftfielder Ashley Angeli pushed across a Raider run in the top of the seventh.

Junior centerfielder Jessica Zelaya went two for four, scoring after a lead-off single in the first and opening the sixth with a triple to right, and scored twice the Rutgers-Newark. Freshman rightfielder Nicole Odell went two for three and scored a run in the fourth inning.

Freshman right-hander AngeAngela Riscinti (1-2) was the hard-luck loser, striking out one and walking one while yielding 11 hits in six full innings.
