Riscinti Shutout Helps Scarlet Raiders Split With Devils

NEWARK, NJ – Freshman pitcher Angela Riscinti hurled her second 2-hit shutout in four days to help Rutgers-Newark earn a split with FDU-Florham under the lights on Alumni Field. The Scarlet Raiders took game one, 10-0, with the Devils rebounding for a 7-2 decision in the nightcap.

In the opener, Riscinti (6-6) gave up a pair of singles in the fourth inning of the mercy rule shortened victory to notch her third shutout of the season. The right-hander struck out four and walked just one. She had a 2-hit, 5-inning shutout on Monday in a 10-0 win over Brooklyn College.

Senior leftfielder Amber Affholter ripped a 2-run double to highlight a 9-run fourth inning for the Scarlet Raiders (9-13). Sophomore shortstop Tina Aita had a pair of RBI singles during the explosion.

In the second game, sophomore pitcher Megan McInaw (4-7) answered Riscinti's gem with a 5-hitter for FDU-Florham (8-14).

Freshman second baseman Christine Antoniotti capped a 3-run fourth inning with a 2-run double to right centerfield to give the Devils a 4-1 lead. Senior designated player Christine Heyl ripped a 2-run double to cap a 3-run seventh inning for FDU-Florham which extended the lead to 7-1.

The Raiders scored in the first when junior centerfielder Jessica Zelaya singled, stole second and scored on a double by freshman third baseman Monica Liotto. Zelaya notched three of the Raiders' five hits.

McInaw helped her own cause by going two for four with a double in the Devils' 10-hit attack.

Rutgers-Newark hosts The College of New Jersey at noon on Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference twinbill on Alumni Field.
