NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark suffered its first shutout of the season, falling to Rutgers-Camden, 3-0, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener in Rutgers-Camden Community Park.

The Scarlet Raiders (6-2-0, NJAC 0-1-0) put just four shots on goal as the Scarlet Raptors (4-3-1, NJAC 1-0-0) out-shot the visitors, 20-11.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Jonathan Frances slipped to 4-2-0 on the year while making five saves. He stopped a Raptor penalty kick in the 43rd minute to help the Raiders keep within striking distance at 1-0 at halftime.
But senior midfielder Shane McGrory netted his second goal of the match in the 54th minute to give Rutgers-Camden some breathing room before junior midfielder Chris Edelschein iced the decision in the 79th minute.
The loss snapped a 5-match winning streak for the Raiders who entered the contest averaging 3.86 goals per match.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Kean University in another NJAC battle on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
