ABINGTON, PA – Rutgers-Newark used a balanced attack to down host Penn State Abington, 3-0, and earn a split in a non-conference tri-match. The Scarlet Raiders (1-2) fell to Penn College 3-0 in the opener.

Freshman setter
Jen Mendoza had 24 assists while helping the Raiders hit .226 for the second match with four players collecting seven or more kills. She also added seven of Rutgers-Newark's 37 digs and one of the team's 15 aces.

Toni Moppert posted a team-highs of 11 kills and 10 digs while adding a pair of aces. Senior middle blocker

Rachel Witt and freshman outside hitter
Ula Nieznalska notched seven kills apiece.
In her best match as a Raider, Navarro hammered down seven kills in just 12 swings with no errors and added a solo block.

Stephanie Touzan, who had four kills, delivered five aces apiece.
The Scarlet Raiders hit a sizzling .478 (13 kills, 2 errors, 23 attempts) in the third set to finish the sweep.
In the opener, Witt sparkled with seven kills and no errors on just 16 attacks while adding two aces, three solo blocks and two assisted blocks to tally 13.0 points. Moppert had a match-high eight digs and joined Witt, Mendoza and Navarro with two aces.
Rutgers-Newark hosts John Jay in The Golden Dome on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its home opener.
