NEWARK, NJ – Senior outside hitter
Toni Moppert led Rutgers-Newark with 10 kills, but Kean University notched a 3-0 victory in The Golden Dome Rec Gym. Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-16.

Moppert added seven digs while junior middle hitter
Rachel Witt came up with eight points on six kills and two aces, but the Scarlet Raiders (1-11) suffered their eighth straight loss while the Cougars improved to 5-9 overall.

Jen Mendoza had 22 assists and a team-high nine digs for Rutgers-Newark while sophomore libero
Paulina Walega and sophomore outside hitter
Ula Nieznalska registered eight digs apiece. Junior middle hitter
Stephanie Touzan contributed four kills while Nieznalska and sophomore outside hitter
Michelle Jimenez had three kills and an ace each.
Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Espinal paced a balanced Kean attack with 11 kills, four of the Cougars' eight aces and 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Aysia Peterson hammered down 10 kills with just two errors on 26 swings Kean while junior libero Katie Schuh came up with a match-high 12 digs.
In the first set, an Espinal kill capped a 4-0 run which put the Cougars in charge at 16-12. Rutgers-Newark could get no closer than two points on three occasions before Kean pulled away for the early advantage.
In the hotly-contested second game, Schuh had an ace while serving four straight Kean points as the Cougars rallied from a 21-19 deficit to take control of the match. Espinal had four kills and an ace in the frame to offset five kills by Moppert.
The Cougars led wire-to-wire in the third set with Espinal leading the way with five kills and an ace.
Rutgers-Newark hosts William Paterson in The Golden Dome Rec Gym on Thursday at 7 p.m. in an NJAC test.
