UNION, NJ – Rutgers-Newark had its chances, but Kean got the lone goal in the second half of a frustrating 1-0 loss in Kean Alumni Stadium.

Josh Alvarez put shots on goal in the final two minutes for the Raiders, but Kean senior goalkeeper Brian Haines came up with two of his five saves to preserve the shutout and the victory.
The loss negated a strong effort by the Raider midfield and defense.
Kean (5-1-2) outshot Rutgers-Newark (5-3-0), 16-9, and forged an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. But the second period was a virtual stalemate with each squad taking seven shots.
It was the Raiders' second consecutive 1-0 loss to the defending NJAC champions. After a 4-0 start, the Raiders have lost three of their last four matches including two by shutout.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Ramapo at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in another NJAC battle while Kean host Rutgers-Camden at 1 o'clock that afternoon.
