Ramapo Halts Scarlet Raiders In NJAC Match

RUTGERS-NEWARK WOMEN'S SOCCER

Marageaux Hedley
MAHWAH, NJ – Rutgers-Newark put eight shots on goal but came away with just one marker in a 7-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference loss to Ramapo College.

BOX SCORE & PLAY-BY-PLAY

Senior forward Liana Abreu notched her 11th goal of the season on a feed from junior forward Margeaux Hedley in the 35th minute to trim the Scarlet Raiders' deficit to 2-1, but the Roadrunners (2-4-2, NJAC 1-2-0) piled up a 29-13 advantage in shots while controlling corner kicks, 11-2.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle Griscom equaled her career high with a dozen saves while Ramapo sophomore Talia Auslin made seven stops.

Junior midfielder Susan Hayes tallied eight points with three goals, including the first two of the contest, and two assists to fuel the Ramapo assault.  Five other Roadrunners netted goals.

Abreu now has netted all but one of Rutgers-Newark's 12 goals as the Scarlet Raiders (2-7-0, NJAC 0-2-0) have dropped five in a row.  She got plenty of attack help today with freshman Sarah Cunha, sophomores Michelle Gromashchuk and Tia Miller, junior LeighAnn Moreira and senior Stefani Uthman each putting a shot on goal.

Rutgers-Newark hosts John Jay at 7:30 p.m. on Monday on Alumni Field in a non-conference match.
