NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark used balance and defense to stop Rowan, 62-52, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game in The Golden Dome Arena.
Sophomore guard
ShaQuanna Marshall, who netted 15 of her game-high 19 points in the opening half, sandwiched a pair of 3-point jumpers around a short jumper to break a tie game with a personal 8-0 run and give the Scarlet Raiders (12-4, NJAC 3-2) a 22-14 lead.
After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half, the Profs (6-9, NJAC 1-4) trimmed their deficit to 56-52 with 3:33 left on back-to-back 3-point jumpers by senior forward Lauren Gregg and freshman guard Kaitlin Schullstrom. But, those were the final points for the visitors.

Sharee Gordon came off the bench for seven rebounds, four points and four blocked shots to give the Raiders a team season-high of 11 rejections.
Gregg paced Rowan with 14 points and six rebounds while junior forward Erin Farrell added 13 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor plus five rebounds. Senior forward Lauren Creel hit five of five free throws on her way to 11 points while senior guard Chanelle Banta had a game-high five steals plus four points, five rebounds and two assists.
With Ramapo College's 55-45 loss to The College of New Jersey this afternoon, the Raiders moved into sole possession of second place in the NJAC North Division. The Roadrunners are now 2-3 in league play and 10-5 overall.
Rutgers-Newark visits Ramapo on Wednesday night for an NJAC doubleheader. The women tip off at 5:30 with the men to follow at 7:30 in the Bradley Center.
