NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark scored 41 points off of turnovers for a 77-39 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over New Jersey City in The Golden Dome Arena.
Senior guard
Kendra Johnson poured in 23 points while freshman wing player
Arianna Williams came up with eight of the Scarlet Raiders' 20 steals as Rutgers-Newark took advantage of 32 NJCU turnovers to score 30 fastbreak points.
Sophomore guard
ShaQuanna Marshall added 14 points while senior forward
Lori Nieves contributed 11 points, four rebounds and a game-high six assists. Johnson also had four steals, two assists and three rebounds while Williams came off the bench for eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
Junior guard Gabriella Rivera paced the Gothic Knights with a dozen points and seven rebounds while sophomore forward Alnisa Hernaiz added 10 points, seven rebounds and a team-high five steals. Junior forward Kerri Cassarello pulled down a game-high eight rebounds while dishing out a team-high five assists.
The victory guaranteed the Scarlet Raiders (14-5, NJAC 5-3) their sixth winning season in the last eight campaigns while the Gothic Knights slipped to 3-15 overall and 0-8 in the NJAC.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Richard Stockton in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday in The Golden Dome. The women tip off at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 8.
