NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark's slow start spelled doom as NJIT raced to an 18-0 lead on its way to a 90-31 win in the Fleisher Athletic Center.
The Scarlet Raiders (1-1) missed their first six shots and committed four turnovers in the opening six minutes as the NCAA D-I Highlanders (3-1) made seven of their first 10 shots which included four 3-point jumpers by guard Sarah Olson.

Yvonne Breland came off the bench to net five of her team-high eight points in the first half, but NJIT pulled away to lead 52-17 at the break.

Jade Howard pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and came up with three steals, but she was limited to six points as the Raiders made just 11 field goals in the contest.
The Highlanders won their third straight contest behind Olson's 20 points and a 23-point, 14-rebound, 5-assist, 3-steal effort by guard Rayven Johnson. NJIT shot a sizzling 55.4% (36-65) from the floor as Olson finished the game by hitting six of seven shots from beyond the arc. Reserve guard Martina Matejcikova nailed three of six 3-point jumpers as the Highlanders made 10 of 17 long-range jumpers.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday night in The Golden Dome Arena. The women tip off at 6 o'clock with the men's game to follow at 8.
