NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark had six players score in double figures, but unbeaten Baruch College spurted its way to a 73-67 non-conference win in The Golden Dome Arena.

Sophomore center Sharee Gordon notched a team-high 13 points off the bench to pace the Scarlet Raiders (6-4), but the Bearcats (8-0) used strong starts to each half to spell the difference.  Rutgers-Newark got 11 points apiece from Jade Howard and Jewell Palmer while Jasmine Daniels, Laura Shakiri and Devinn Bright registered 10 points each in the truly balanced Raider attack.

Sophomore guard Francess Henry hit three treys and dropped in all seven of her free throws to post a game-high 20 points for Baruch while senior guard Jessica Duleba netted 19 points and added five rebounds.

Henry had a field goal and a pair of free throws to ignite a 16-1 run which staked the Bearcats to an 18-5 lead just seven minutes into the contest.  The Raiders whittled their deficit to 30-26 with 3:06 left in the half on a follow shot by Gordon, but Rutgers-Newark would get no closer.  Henry dropped in all three free throws after getting fouled beyond the arc with 1:07 left in the period to push the Baruch lead to nine before a layup by Gordon set the halftime score at 37-30.

Duleba fueled a decisive 12-0 run by the Bearcats during the opening 4:21 of the second half to make it 49-30.  Duleba started the rally with a 3-point jumper just 17 seconds into the period and capped the rally with a second-chance layup.  Baruch led by as many as 20 points before the Raiders put on a late surge.

Howard had four points and Palmer, three, as the Raiders scored 10 unanswered points to make it 72-67 with just 15 seconds left before Duleba made the first of two free throws to round out the scoring.

Daniels tallied seven rebounds and a team-high five assists for the Raiders while Bright came off the bench to add five rebounds and a pair of assists to her career-high point total.  Palmer worked inside for a team-high eight rebounds and made three steals while Howard contributed six rebounds and four steals.

Sophomore guard Iyana Abrams pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for Baruch while adding eight points, four assists and three steals.   Freshman guard Lynda Fields tallied nine points, four assists and three steals while sophomore forward Sheridan Taylor piled up nine rebounds, six points and five assists before fouling out of the game.

Rutgers-Newark now takes its fall semester exam break before getting back into action with a non-conference doubleheader against Hunter College in The Golden Dome Arena on December 30.  The women tip off at 1 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 3.
