NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark came a game shy of its first ECAC Metro D-III Women's Basketball Championship, falling to a red-hot Richard Stockton team, 83-52, in The Golden Dome Arena.

Richard Stockton made nine of its first 11 shots from the floor to race out to an 18-0 lead. Most Outstanding Player LaTonya Oliver and sophomore forward Lauren Alwan had six points each during the spree while the Ospreys (18-12) held the top-seeded Scarlet Raiders (20-9) scoreless for the first 5:26 of the contest. Rutgers-Newark never got closer than 14 points as third-seeded Stockton led 40-25 at the half and extended its lead to as many as 37 points in the second half.
Oliver made 10 of 13 field goals on her way to 20 points while adding game highs of 18 rebounds and six blocked shots while Alwan finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Junior forward Che'Na Thompson added 13 points, five rebounds three assists and two steals for the Ospreys while freshman guard Brittany Muniz chipped in 14 points and three assists. Stockton shot a torrid 58.1% (36-62) from the field with senior point guard Aliyah Nelson distributing a game-high seven assists.
It was the Ospreys' second ECAC Metro title with the first coming in 2001.
Rutgers-Newark finished the season with its first 20-win season in the NCAA D-III era, reaching the ECAC Metro Championship finals for the first time in program history.
