Raiders Sweep Brooklyn College, 3-0, For Second Straight Win

RUTGERS-NEWARK WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

BROOKLYN, NY – Rutgers-Newark won its second straight match with a 3-0 win over Brooklyn College in the West Quad Center.  Set scores were 25-9, 26-24, 25-17.

Senior right side Stephanie Touzan posted a match-high 11 kills to go along with three aces as the Scarlet Raiders (8-9) swept the Bulldogs (2-11).  Senior middle blocker Rachel Witt roped five of the Raiders' 13 aces and added seven kills.

Junior setter Jen Mendoza fueled the attack with 25 assists while adding three aces, two kills and a team-high 14 digs.  Junior outside hitter Ula Nieznalska contributed five kills and an ace.

Brooklyn College was paced by Jillian Escobar who posted five kills and delivered all three of the Bulldogs' service aces.

The Raiders never trailed in the opening game as Touzan had four kills and Witt three kills plus an ace to help Rutgers-Newark take early command.

In the second frame, there were 11 ties and five lead changes before sophomore middle blocker Sharee Gordon gave the Raiders a 25-24 lead.  A Bulldog attack error ended the set and stalled Brooklyn College's comeback hopes.  Touzan had five kills in the game.

Witt chalked up three aces and added two kills as the Raiders pulled away to an early 7-1 lead in game three to secure the match.

Rutgers-Newark hosts Mount St. Vincent at 7 o'clock on Tuesday night in The Golden Dome before returning to New Jersey Athletic Conference play with a Thursday night home match against New Jersey City.
