RIVERDALE, NY – Rutgers-Newark out-lasted Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2, behind a balanced attack in the Sharp Center. Games scores were 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 15-10.
The Scarlet Raiders (5-7) bounced back after dropping games one and three by identical scores of 25-19 to extend the match and snap a 5-match losing streak while ending the Dolphins' winning skein at three.

Kathy Hormaza tallied a match-high five aces to go along with four kills and 15 digs.

Christina Maglione registered five kills apiece. Campanelli added a team-high 17 assists, 10 digs and an assisted block while Chau came up with a match-high 18 digs.

Hannah Riede roped two aces apiece as the Raider totaled 11 for the night.
Sophomore middle hitter Ashleigh Scozzari hammered down a match-high 17 kills while adding an ace and two solo blocks for the Dolphins (3-11). Freshman outside hitter Maria Leineweber collected a dozen kills with a team-high four aces and a dozen digs while freshman middle hitter Brianna Walker contributed nine kills and a match-high four solo blocks. Sophomore setter Zana Daluz distributed 38 assists while making 13 digs.
Campanelli had two kills, two assists and an assisted block in the final frame when the Raiders needed just four kills to take the victory. Riede delivered back-to-back aces to bring Rutgers-Newark to match point at 14-8. After a pair of Raider attack errors, a Dolphin service error ended the 1-hour, 52-minute marathon.
After losing game one, the Raiders got four kills from Gordon plus two kills and a pair of aces from Hormaza to level the score.
After falling behind again after three sets, Chau and Maglione each put down four kills with just one error on eight swings to help the Raiders force the decisive fifth frame.
It was the first five-set match of the season for the Raiders.
Rutgers-Newark travels to Pennsylvania on Saturday to take on host Penn State-Altoona and McDaniel in a non-conference tri-match.
