NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark battled Richard Stockton on Senior Night but the Ospreys earned a 3-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory on Alumni Field.
Junior Victoria Nunez went between the pipes for the first time this season when freshman goalkeeper Diana Aviles was unable to play. Nunez responded by making five saves to keep things close despite an 18-3 edge in shots and a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks by the playoff-bound Ospreys (14-6-0, NJAC 6-3-0).
Sophomore midfielder Cristina Estremera ripped a shot around a defender from just outside the 18 in the 43rd minute for the Scarlet Raiders' best chance to score, but senior goalkeeper Sarah Hinkle moved to her right to stop the shot. Freshman defender Victoria Benet sent a free kick on goal from just inside midfield in the 39th minute for the Raiders' only other shot on goal.
Nunez, who was replaced in goal by freshman Monet Jackson in the final minutes, fired a shot right of the goal in the 89th minute for Rutgers-Newark's other attempt.
Senior midfielder Briana Fischer notched two assists to lead Stockton.
Junior forward Lexi Stasi netted what proved to be the game winner just 10:32 into the match by chipping a long lob lead pass from Fischer over Nunez.
Freshman midfielder Adrianna Boucher put back a shot off of Nunez by Fischer in the 29th minute and senior midfielder Leah Braidi did the same on a rebound of a header by freshman forward Taylor Nichols in the 72nd to give the Ospreys some breathing room.
Hinkle shared the shutout win with senior Cara Parliament who played the final 14:22 of the match.
