NEWARK, NJ – Join the Scarlet Raiders on Saturday as they “
Strike Out MS" by raising awareness and donations for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Giovina (Vina) Landis.
Rutgers-Newark is teaming up with Rutgers-Camden in order to raise awareness and donations for MS in the final New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season on Alumni Field at 1 p.m.
“Strike Out MS” T-Shirts will be sold for $10.00 at both games. All proceeds will go directly to the National MS Society.
Can't make it to the game? Donations can be made in honor of Vina by visiting the
MS event site.
Vina lost her almost 30 year battle with MS in November 2012. Vina loved life, family and Rutgers-Newark Athletics. Her daughter Christina Landis has been the graduate intern coach for the Scarlet Raiders since September 2011.
According to the National MS Society “there is no cure for MS. The money that is raised will be used to find the cause, treatment, and ultimately the cure of multiple sclerosis. The money is also used to provide education, information, direct financial support, and scholarships to individuals and families living with MS”.
The Scarlet Raiders will send off four seniors at Saturday's game to conclude the conference home schedule. First baseman
Monica Bagan, third baseman
Monica Liotto, leftfielder
Nicole Odell and pitcher
Allie Ronchi will be honored between games.
